What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?
This is a controversial question. From my point of view, I think counselling is more about working on issues like; depression, stress, bereavement, relationships, anger, obsessions, anxiety, low self-esteem, addiction, abuse and bullying, although this list is not exhaustive.
Psychotherapy goes deeper and seeks to alleviate long standing suffering, the source of which may not be known or understood. It includes issues listed under counselling above. Often, sessions would be increased to two or three times a week for a period, after mutual agreement. The safe, confidential environment and the relationship between us are important for this way of working.
